Why does Easy MTD VAT state authorisation failed?

The VAT registration number specified for the business in Easy MTD VAT is incorrect. | Select the business from the Business list box then click the Modify button to check and correct the VAT registration number. |
During the authorisation process, incorrect Government Gateway account credentials (user ID and password) were used to sign in. | Perform the authority process using the correct Government Gateway account credentials for the business. Make sure you are using credentials for your VAT account - NOT your Corporation Tax account or your personal account. If you are an agent and the business is linked to your agent services account, you will need to use the credentials of your agent services account. |
As an agent and during the authorisation process, incorrect agent account credentials (user ID and password) were used to sign in. Be aware, HMRC may have recently changed your agent ID (user ID). | Complete the authority process using the correct agent services account credentials. |
As an agent, the business (that is assigned to your agent services account) does not have an agent assigned to it. | Select the business from the Business list box, click the Modify button then select an agent from the Agent list box. |
There may be an issue with the HMRC system (e.g. maintenance is being performed). | Wait an hour then perform the authority process. |
