Why does Easy MTD need to be connected with HMRC?

Before Easy MTD can retrieve Income Tax and VAT information from HMRC or submit anything to HMRC for a business or taxpayer, it must be connected with HMRC.

The connection process is started by clicking a Connect link on the Taxpayers page or the Businesses page, or by clicking the Yes button in the "Not Connected to HMRC" window. Following this, the "Allow your software to connect with HMRC" web page is opened in the default browser along with the Connect With HMRC window. Follow the steps presented in the browser then, at the end of the process, copy the authorisation code and paste it into the Code box in the Easy MTD Connect With HMRC window.

If you have previously connected Easy MTD with HMRC for a business or taxpayer and you are being prompted to connect again, it is likely the connection has expired. Connections normally expire after 18 months.
